CALIFORNIA LAW - DOG VALUE
We are just devastated by this event, that happened to one of my customers: Their Siberian Husky that they bought in 2010 got stolen straight from out of their home on December 11, 2017. What's so sad and what made it worse is that the local police do not think it is anything but a minor citation.
CA PENAL CODE § 487e. Grand theft; Only dog exceeding value of $950. can be considered grand theft. Every person who feloniously steals, takes, or carries away a dog of another which is of a value exceeding nine hundred fifty dollars ($950) is guilty of grand theft.
So more less according to state law in order to gain justice you must prove that your dog's value, cost, purchase is at $950 or over.
Sentimental value means nothing..
