As The Pet Collective points out, this live stream may be a better option for some animal lovers than an under-the-tree puppy. Too often, pets are given as gifts to people who are not ready or willing to make the lifetime commitment of raising an animal. Many pets given as gifts are later returned to overburdened shelters.

PETA offers the following tips to determine if a pet should be given as a gift: Will your loved one have the time and patience to exercise and housetrain the animal? Is he or she prepared to pay for food, accessories (such as toys, grooming supplies, leashes and harnesses, and bedding), inoculations, and veterinary care, including spaying or neutering, flea treatment, deworming and emergency care?
